The challenges
DHL faced increasing demand for healthcare logistics capacity in New Zealand, driven by the growing and ageing population and the rising need for advanced medical supply distribution.
The company needed to ensure reliable, temperature- and humidity-controlled storage and efficient distribution of pharmaceutical and healthcare products across the country, while also meeting sustainability targets.

The solution
Automate-X deployed with Geekplus 41 Geek+ Goods-to-Person robots. The largest deployment by any New Zealand 3PL provider, boosting productivity, accuracy, and workplace safety. We deployed the system and trained DHL teams to manage calibration and maintenance, ensuring long-term operational excellence.
The facility also features 12,000 temperature-controlled pallet spaces with advanced humidity and cold-chain environments from 2°C to –30°C, supporting pharmaceutical storage and repackaging under license. To address these challenges, the facility expanded its healthcare logistics footprint by 20%, providing enhanced storage, distribution, and quality assurance capabilities. It also centralised operations to ensure faster, more reliable delivery of medicines to patients and pharmacies nationwide.

The deployment also included comprehensive training for DHL teams to manage calibration and maintenance, ensuring long-term operational excellence. The facility features 12,000 temperature-controlled pallet spaces with advanced humidity and cold-chain environments ranging from 2°C to –30°C, supporting the licensed storage and repackaging of pharmaceuticals. In addition, the warehouse operates entirely on 100% renewable electricity and has achieved a five-star green building rating, reflecting its integration of smart, energy-efficient systems that minimize environmental impact.
